Falcons upend Coker 11-9 on the road

Box Score HARTSVILLE, SC - The Montevallo women's lacrosse team secured a 11-9 win over the Coker University Cobras, after a close battle Friday evening in South Carolina.  With the win the Falcons advance to 1-1 while Coker drops to 0-3 in the early part of the lacrosse season.  Montevallo spread the attack offensively with seven players scoring a goal and four Falcons netting two goals.  Linnea Ayers led the Falcon defense with six ground balls.  

Coker took the first goal of the game with 11:37 left in the first quarter.  The Falcons would score three unanswered goals before ending the first period with a 4-2 advantage over the Cobras.  The Falcons netted the first two goals of the second quarter but the Cobras responded with a series of goals of their own to cut the UM lead 7-6 by halftime. 

Defense was strick on both sides on the third period, with Anja Kuys notching the only goal of the quarter in the 12th minute.  Both teams found crucial scoring opportunities in the fourth as Coker brought the Montevallo lead down to one point (10-9) with 3:24 left in the game.  Crystal Williams came in clutch with the Falcons 11th goal with 2:40 left to go.  UM's defense held on for the rest of the game to take the two goal win over the Cobras.

UP NEXT:  The Falcons will head west to Gaffney, South Carolina to take on Limestone University with the first draw set for Sunday, February 13th at Limestone.
