MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Montevallo's outdoor track & field teams kicked off the 2022 season this weekend at the Victor Ice Breaker Duals, hosted by Berry College. Both squads experienced new highs resulting in the men's team finishing with 116.5 points and the women's team scoring out at 87 points, with both teams claiming third place.
"We had a solid start to the outdoor season. Several personal records were broken and several to pick up where they left off from last season," remarked head coach
Tommy Barksdale. "We are excited to see the progression of our athletes. We can't wait to see what's in store for our home meet."
Highlights of the meet for the Falcons included:
- Devandrius McCollum (53.92m) and Gaines Myrick (53.26m) dominated the javelin throw with McCollum finishing first and Myrick taking second. Micah Flores also submitted a top five performance during the same event with a distance of 52.16m to finish fourth.
- Joseph Pitard snatched third in the men's 1500, with a finals time of 4:01.83.
- Kyle Tidwell and Braxton Sanford finished second and fourth in men's pole vault, with marks of 4.22 and 4.07.
- Skylar Suggitt (3.37m) and Jaycey Bowing (3.22m) completed top five finishes in the PV with Suggitt taking second and Bowling finishing fourth.
- Nyla Shipman took second in the women's hammer throw, with a 44.80 mark.
UP NEXT: Montevallo's next outdoor meet will take place at home as the program takes on the Falcon Classic starting on Friday, March 18th at the UM Track & Field Complex
