Box Score CLINTON, Miss. – To close out a road trip in Mississippi, the University of Montevallo men's basketball team slipped in Clinton, 75-67, to Mississippi College, Saturday.
Montevallo battled with the Choctaws in the first half and entered halftime tied even at 41 before the home side outscored the Falcons 34-26 in the second half, dropping Montevallo to a 7-11 league record.
After trailing for the majority of the first half, a
Braxton Bertolette jumper broke a 32-32 tie and ignited a 6-2 run to give Monteavllo its largest lead of the game, 38-34, with 2:53 to go before the half. The Choctaws outscored the Falcons 6-3 the rest of the way to even the score at intermission.
Out of halftime, an early free-throw from
James McNeil briefly put the Falcons in front, 42-41 before an 8-0 Mississippi College run put the Choctaws up seven, 49-42.
Mason Shifflett cut the deficit to two at the 3:01 mark, 63-61, but back-to-back Choctaw three-pointers helped keep the home side in front down the stretch.
In the road-trip finale, the Falcons struggled offensively compared to the home side and were outshot 50 percent to 41.8 percent from the floor. A pair of 19-point performances from McNeil and Bertolette led UM.
Free-throws became a difference in the contest as Mississippi College finished 19-of-22 from the charity stripe while UM was 15-of-20.

- Montevallo currently sits in a tie for ninth place with West Florida in the Gulf South Conference standings after falling to Mississippi College. The win for the Choctaws broke a three-way tie for eighth.
- Only three Falcons scored double-figures, led by 19 each from Braxton Bertolette and James McNeil. Mason Shifflett added 14.
- Although the Falcons won the turnover battle, 10-15, Mississippi college scored 16 points-from-turnovers while UM managed just 10.
- Shooting percentages made a difference in the outcome as MC shot 86.4 percent from the line (19-of-22), 37.5 percent from three (6-of-16), and 50 percent from the floor (25-of-50) while UM was 75 percent (15-of-20), 30 percent (6-of-20), and 41.8 percent (23-of-55), respectively.
- Mississippi College recorded 18 assists on 25 made baskets while Montevallo managed just six on 23.
