Falcons Open GSC Play on the Road Saturday,Monday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball will open the Gulf South Conference season on the road in Huntsville, Alabama, on Saturday, Nov. 25, against Alabama-Huntsville.
 
The Falcons enter conference play seeking its first win of the season after a tough non-conference stretch to start the season.
 
Following Saturday's showdown in the Rocket City, Montevallo will head to Livingston, Alabama for a matchup with West Alabama at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 27.
 
So Far This Season…
 
The Falcons enter the conference opener 0-3 overall on the year after dropping a two-overtime thriller to Clark-Atlanta in the home opener. UM boasts one of the top offenses in the GSC and the nation, averaging a league second-best and NCAA Division-II best 98.3 points per game. Additionally, UM has drained 39 three-pointers and leads the nation in three-point attempts.
 
Scouting UAH:
 
UAH, who opened the season at No. 23 in the NABC Top-25 Coaches Poll, has fallen out of the ranking after opening the year 2-2 with losses to No. 2 Nova Southeastern and Lincoln Memorial. The Chargers are fifth in the GSC in scoring at 88 points per game but lead in three-pointers made per game with 14.3.
 
Scouting West Alabama:
 
West Alabama opened the year at No. 24 in the national rankings and still receiving votes with a 3-1 record on the year. Prior to stomping Oakwood on Tuesday, the Tigers defeated No. 5/6 Lincoln Memorial in Livingston. UWA has one of the top defenses in the league as the Tigers are holding its opponents to 54.3 points per game.
 
 
Series History Against UAH:
 
Saturday's clash marks the 82nd all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to the mid-1970s. The Chargers hold the advantage all-time, 43-38 and are 21-16 against UM in Huntsville. Since Montevallo rejoined the GSC in 2017, UAH leads the series 8-3. The Falcons' last win over UAH was on Nov. 22, 2022 in the McChesney Student Activity Center, 89-70.
 Series History Against UAH:
 
Since 2014, West Alabama leads the series 8-3 and is 3-2 inside Pruitt Hall. UM won the last matchup, snapping an eight-game losing streak, on Jan. 11, 2023 in Livingston, 84-82.
 
Player Highlights:
 
Jack Henderson leads the Falcons in scoring early on this season with 15 points per game and is one of four players averaging double-figures. Jaylen Curry sits just behind the Lewis & Clark transfer with 14.3 points per game while Justin Graham is scoring 14.0 per game following his 31 point, 11 rebound double-double against Clark-Atlanta. Charlie Champagne rounds out UM's top group of scorers at 10 points per game. SEMO transfer Tevin Gowins leads UM and the GSC with 6.3 assists per game and has dished out eight in each of the last two games.
 
 
 
The duo of Tommy Murr and Luke Burnett lead UAH in scoring on the year at 21 and 19 points per game, respectively. Dane Harding is dishing out a GSC second-best 5.5 assists per game, behind UM's Gowins.
 
Kuran Garner leads West Alabama in scoring at 13.8 points per game.
