Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's lacrosse team opened the year with a 17-12 win at home over Reinhardt, Saturday.
After matching the visitor's output in the first half, the Falcons exploded in the third quarter and scored 10 goals. Montevallo outscored Reinhardt 11-6 in the second half.
Out of halftime, Reinhardt struck first to take a 7-6 lead before
Kiley Shea evened the score 7-7 with a goal at the 14:22 mark.
Jenna Piazza gave Montevallo an 8-7 lead with 10:35 to go in the quarter and continued what would be 10-straight Falcon goals.
Mikaela Barbieri's fifth goal of the game with 38 seconds remaining in the third gave UM a 16-7 advantage.
Reinhardt added five goals in the final period, but the Montevallo defense held the lead. With 1:23 remaining,
Anja Kuys scored her second goal of the day to finalize the score 17-12.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo outshot the visitors 32-25 overall in the contest.
- Rachel Rose made five saves and earned the win for UM while Miranda Laird added two saves.
- The Falcons finished 16-of-22 in clears while Reinhardt was 18-of-31.
- Montevallo earned 20 draw controls, compared to 13 for Reinhardt, and held a 41-35 advantage in ground balls.
- Mikaela Barbieri led Montevallo with five goals in her debut.
- Jodi Morawiec notched three assists and three goals to lead UM with six points.
- Crystal Williams, Anja Kuys and Kiley Shea each led the Falcons with four draw controls.
- Lily McCormick and Barbieri each had a team-high seven ground balls.
