AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Communicators have announced the 2023 Academic All-District Teams for NCAA Division II baseball with five Falcons being named to the team.
After a successful season in the classroom and a successful season that is continuing on the field, Montevallo baseball's
Reed Latimer,
Matt Simon,
Ben Teel,
Sam Kuchinski and
Asa Awbrey have been named to the Academic All-District Team.
Kuchinski has posted a 3.57 cumulative grade-point average during his two years as a Falcon while pursuing an undergraduate degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science. The Powder Springs, Georgia native has balanced success both on the field and in the classroom as he was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Simon earned Montevallo's distinguished Walter Bennett award, given to the male student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. The shortstop from Apopka, Florida has played in 43 games this year for the Falcons while maintaining a 3.94 GPA.
A five-year starter for the Falcons, Teel, earned the honor following a season in which he led the Falcons in runs and was named to the All-GSC Second Team. The Homewood, Alabama native has a cumulative GPA of 3.67 while pursuing a degree in accounting.
Latimer, a First Team All-GSC selection was named to the Academic All-District squad with his 3.54 cumulative GPA. Latimer, from Scottsboro, Alabama, is pursuing a degree in Mathematics.
Awbrey, a centerfielder from Carrollton, Georgia, was named to the All-GSC second team and lands on the All-District squad with his 3.85 GPA. He is pursuing a degree in Finance.
Each of the All-District members are automatically nominated for the All-American Team which is voted on by sports information directors and collegiate sports communicators from around the nation.
