MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo Women's Soccer Head Coach
Jake Wyman has released the signing of nine true freshman to the Falcons' 2023 roster.
The Montevallo Women's Soccer team will be much younger heading into the 2023 season with the addition of 9 freshman. The class goes coast to coast with California, Florida, Colorado, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Georgia & Canada all represented. The nine newcomers will join 17 returners that went 12-3-3 in the 2022 season.
"We are extremely excited about the group of players we have coming in," said Wyman. "We have some really good people and great families joining us. In the day and age of the transfer portal, we are investing in kids that have bought into Montevallo, that share our ambitions and people that want to grow and develop."
Wyman's class of nine newcomers include
Jordan Hood,
Raylene Alcaraz,
Morgan Goehring,
Lainey Farabaugh,
Isabel Dillehay,
Valentina Santana,
Danielle Burge,
Tessa Harrington and
Lauren Kelbert.
Hood, a center forward out of Moreno Valley, Calif., comes to Montevallo after spending three seasons as the varsity captain for the Valley View High School women's soccer team. Hood found the back of the net 13 times during her senior season. The incoming freshman played for club team Sporting California Arsenal ECNL.
Alcaraz, an attacking midfielder from Poly High School, spent her junior and senior seasons as the team captain with First Team All-League and Scholar Athlete awards from her freshman to senior year. In 2023, the newcomer also received the Mya Avila Award. In her freshman, junior and senior seasons, her high school squad won the league championship and played in the California Interscholastic Federation Regional Championship.
Goehring, a wide forward out of Yorba Linda, California, was a four-year varsity captain for her high school squad. The Orange Lutheran High School graduate was a two-time Offensive MVP award winner while earning a First Team All-Trinity League honor. Academically, Goehring graduated Summa Cum Laude as a member of the High Honor Roll and the California Scholarship Federation.
Farabaugh hails from Altoona, Penn. where the forward spent three years as the varsity team captain. Farabaugh earned three-consecutive All-Conference awards and First Team All-Area from 2020-22. The newcomer scored a total of 171 goals to go along with 66 assists in her high school career. Farabaugh, as team captain, lead her Mid City Lions club team to the U19 US Club National Finals.
Dillehay, a two-sport athlete from Centennial, Colorado, joins the Falcons with a total of 11 goals and 26 assists throughout her high school career. The forward/midfielder led her Grandview High School squad to a 2022 5A State Championship while starting as the point guard for the back-to-back state champion Grandview basketball team. Dillehay was named Academic All-State to add to her 2022 Scholar Athlete of the year award.
Santana joins Wyman's 2023 roster as a goalkeeper from Homestead, Fla. At South Dade High School, Santana spent two seasons as the team captain with her team finishing as District Runner-ups for four-straight seasons. The newcomer was named All-County Second Team following the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Santana also played on South Dade County High School's varsity softball team while playing club soccer for Miami Lakes United.
Burge joins Montevallo as a forward/fullback from Chelsea High School in Chelsea, Ala. The incoming freshman totaled 16 goals and 11 assists in her high school career to earn a 2023 Birmingham Coaches All-Metro award. Burge played with club squad Alabama FC.
Harrington, a scholar athlete for all four of her high school seasons, comes to central Alabama out of Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, Ga. As captain for her high school squad, Harrington was named 2023 All-County and All-Region while earning the 2022 Forsyth County Defensive Player of the Year. In 2022, Harrington earned All-County and All-Region nods while being named one of the Top 20 Georgia Players to Watch. She played her club soccer with United Futbol Academy.
Kelbert, a fullback/wingback from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, played for four seasons at Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School where she graduated with Honors of Distinction. Kelbert played club ball for Soccer's Best Winnipeg.
Wyman's nine incoming freshman will join the 17 returners on the pitch in their first collegiate contest against Birmingham-Southern on Saturday, August 26.
