BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has named
Madeline Milby as the first Defender of the Week for 2023 while
Lainey Farabaugh received the first Freshman of the Week honor.
The Falcons went 2-0 on the weekend with a 6-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, Aug. 31 before defeating Trevecca Nazarene, 4-1, on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Milby started both games for the Falcons and played all 90 minutes in the backline for Montevallo. In UM's season opener, the graduate defender assisted on Montevallo's first goal of 2023 just 1:21 into the game. Milby added her second assist of the afternoon in the 29
th minute to put Montevallo up 3-0 before the half. Milby added her third and final assist of the weekend midway through the first half of Montevallo's win over TNU. Just 26 seconds later, Milby tallied her first goal of the 2023 season off a penalty kick to give Montevallo an early 2-0 lead. For the week, Milby tallied one goal on two shots with one shot on go to pair with three assists and five points in 180 minutes on the field.

Farabaugh scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 67
th minute of Montevallo's season-opening win over Kentucky Wesleyan. In UM's matchup with Trevecca Nazarene, Farabaugh recorded her first career assist in the 54
th minute. On the weekend, the freshman forward scored one goal on two shots with one shot on goal to go along with an assist in 78 minutes played.
Milby, Farabaugh and the rest of the Falcons return to action on Thursday, Sept. 7 to take on West Alabama at 7 p.m. in Montevallo, Ala.
