BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has named Montevallo freshman duo
Lola Martinez and
Katelynn Kott as GSC Defender and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
Martinez, a staple in the Falcons' backline this season, played all 90 minutes in both of Montevallo's wins over in-state rivals West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville. The freshman helped to hold UM's opponents to just one goal during the 2-0 stretch while holding West Alabama to just eight shots with one on target. In the Falcons' 2-1 win over UAH, Martinez led the defense to hold the Chargers to eight shots with five on goal. The Chargers' goal in the 48
th minute ended a 138-minute scoreless streak by Falcon opponents.
Kott tallied her first assist as a Falcon in Montevallo's 2-1 win over UAH on Saturday night. The freshman found an open
Isabel Dillehay who buried the game winner in the 54
th minute. On the week, Kott fired four shots with one shot on goal in a total of 39 minutes of action.
Martinez and Kott will join the rest of the Falcons for the second half of a four-game road trip against Christian Brothers on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 5 p.m.
