Falcons Ready for the Emory Thrills in the Hills

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete in the Emory Thrills in the Hills on Friday, Mar. 22 and Saturday, Mar. 23 at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
 
In their previous meet, the Falcons placed third on both the men's and women's side in the Falcons Classic and Multi. Freshman Emily Wolf set three personal records and won the shot put with a distance of 12.22 meters. Wolf was named freshman and field athlete of the week by the Gulf South Conference for this effort. Also, in throws, Nyla Shipman returned from the NCAA Nationals and won the hammer throw with a distance of 49.90 meters. Elizabeth Hayhurst dominated the javelin throw with a first-place distance of 40.41 meters.
 
Will Stroud finished fourth in the decathlon with a personal best 4983 points. Stroud earned GSC freshman of the week by setting personal record's in the high jump, 400-meter, 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500-meter. He won first in the high jump with a height of 1.83 meters, discus throw with a distance of 32.62 meters and the pole vault as he cleared a height of 3.70 meters.
 
Julian Fore had the highest finish for the men with a first-place in the 800-meter with a time of 1:56.92. David Vick secured a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.43. In the 3000-meter steeple chase, Mateo Lopez ran a time of 10:22.54 for third place and Drew Thayer ran a fourth-place time of 10:30.68.
