HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Montevallo Track and Field opened the UAH Rocket City Invitational with four podium finishes and three new school records on Friday.
Four Falcon men posted five top-five finishes in field events, which included Jeremiah Fails and Corey Perkins earning podium finishes in the Long Jump. Fails placed second with a jump of 7.22m, while Perkins placed third with a jump of 6.97m. Christopher Johnson led the way for the throwers, placing fourth in the Hammer Throw with a school record throw of 51.81m. Johnson and Caleb Newell earned top five finishes in the Shot Put, as Johnson placed fourth with a distance of 15.16m and Newell placed fifth with a distance of 15.03m.
Zak Ferguson earned the lone top finish on the track, placing first in the 5000m with a time of 14:26.52. Fails also led the way for the Falcon men on the track, as he set a new school record in the 100m with a time of 10.32 in the 100m. Fails moves on to the 100m finals tomorrow.
Cesleigh Martin earned the lone podium finish in field events for the women, placing third in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.65m. Saskia Rhind and Makayla Amador led the way for the jumps, as Rhind placed fifth in the High Jump with a height of 1.50m and Amador placed fifth in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.32m.
Ka'Mya Jackson led the way on track, setting a school record in the 100m with a time of 11.92. Jackson moves on to the 100m finals tomorrow. Sarah Turner earned a top-five finish in the 1500m, placing fifth in the 1500m with a time of 4:50.63.
The Falcons close the weekend at the UAH Rocket City Invitational tomorrow.
