Box Score Boca Raton, Fla. – Montevallo women's lacrosse's defense couldn't hold against #12 Lynn Fightin Knights.
 
The Falcons started out slow in this one. Two won draw controls by Lynn and a turnover by Montevallo on a clear led to two early goals for the Fighting Knights. The Falcons took their only shot of the period with 11:38 on the clock, which was saved by the Lynn Goalkeeper. Lynn scored three more goals pushing the score to 5-0.
 
Montevallo's defense came alive at the start of the second period. A caused turnover for Kiley Shea and a successful clear led to a goal from Aleena Edwards on an assist from Chloe Norman. This was the Falcons' only shot for the period. MacKenzie Griffin had three saves in this period and the Falcons had three caused turnovers. With the goals from the Fighting Knights the half ended in their favor 8-1.
 
Lynn came out of the half hot, scoring their ninth goal of the game in the first minute of the third quarter. Montevallo was able to grab two of their own goals after fouls by the Fighting Knights. Chloe Norman scored on a free-position shot at the 9:48 mark and Claire Withington was able to pick up a goal on a man-up opportunity just three minutes later. Another goal by Lynn was equalized by Kiley Shea on circus shot, falling away from the net. Jenna Piazza got another quality shot from a free position which was saved by Lynn's keeper. The Fighting Knights picked up one more with a minute to go in the quarter making the score 11-4.
 
The fourth quarter started with the Falcons getting on the board first. A goal from Ellery Shearer got the falcons on track. Jenna Piazza scored the second goal of the quarter on a free-position shot and got Montevallo back into the game with the score at 11-6. Lynn picked up back-to-back goals before another goal from Shearer with 4:08 on the clock. The Fighting Knights picked up one more with 2:49 to go in the game. Shearer grabbed her third goal of the game on a free-position shot with 2:31 on the clock. Lynn had two more goals on a free-position shot and a fast break, before Shearer put her fourth goal in the net with three seconds left. The Falcons finished down 9-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
1^st | The Falcons first offensive possession came after two goals from Lynn. A save from the Lynn goalkeeper kept Montevallo scoreless as this was the only shot the Falcons had. The Falcons were 4-7 on clears and had 7 turnovers leading to 5 goals from the fighting Knights.
2^nd | The Falcons Picked up their first goal of the game after a caused turnover and successful clear. Montevallo gave up three goals in this period. UM had four ground balls compared to the three of Lynn.
3^rd | Both teams capitalized on fouls from their opponents. The Falcons picked up a free-position goal and a man-up goal, and the Fighting Knights picked one up on a designed play from a free-position attempt and another from a two-man-up opportunity.
4^th | The Falcons and Fighting Knights scored five goals in the period, with four of Montevallo's coming from Freshman Ellery Shearer
