Falcons Host Malone on Tuesday Afternoon

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse looks to return to the win column with a Tuesday night matchup against Malone University at 5 p.m. on March 5.
 
So Far This Season…
With a month gone in the 2024 season, Montevallo holds a 1-5 record after opening the season with a loss to No. 15 Embry-Riddle. The Falcons then picked up the first win of the season with an 18-11 win over North Greenville on Feb. 9. Montevallo then dropped a meeting with No. 7 Rollins back on Feb. 11. Montevallo then fell to Belmont Abbey, 18-10, before taking a 17-6 loss at Limestone in back-to-back road games. Most recently, Montevallo fell to SCAD-Savannah, 16-14, on Friday, Feb. 23.
 
Through five games, Montevallo averages 9.17 goals per game with an average of 4.17 assists per game. The Falcons tally an average of 13.33 points per game on a .474 shot percentage. The Falcons' goalkeeping corps averages 9.33 saves per game with a .348 save percentage.
 
Montevallo's attack is led by junior Kiley Shea who has tallied 15 goals on 20 shots on goal with a 4-for-7 mark from free-position shots. Shea is followed closely by freshman Ellery Shearer with 12 goals on 19 shots on goal while Mikaela Barbieri scored 11 goals on 13 shots on goal. Defensively, Madison Sobolewski leads the Falcons with 11 caused turnovers with the most ground balls by any player that isn't a goalkeeper with eight ground balls.

The 2024 campaign highlights the first ever season for Malone women's lacrosse. The Saints began the program's first season with a 10-6 win over West Virginia Wesleyan College back on Saturday, Feb. 24.
 
In a wire-to-wire victory, Malone's attack was led by Abbey Burns who tallied five goals on nine shots on goal to go along with a team-high eight caused turnovers and eight ground balls. Junior Seanna McDougall led the team with 11 ground balls while Jorjia Meza led the squad with three draw controls. In the net, Malone keeper Sommer-Jo Grieser tallied 12 saves while allowing just six goals.
