MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse travels to former Gulf South Conference foe Young Harris on Saturday, March 1 in the Falcons' return from a bye week.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo heads into the weekend with a 3-3 record after opening the season with a 16-15 win over Converse on the road on Jan. 31. The Falcons went on to fall to Emmanuel, 18-16, on Feb. 2 before returning home for a pair of losses against No. 12 Lynn and No. 15 Embry-Riddle on Feb. 7 and Feb. 9, respectively. On Valentine's Day, Montevallo returned to the win column with a 14-13 overtime win over Tusculum on the road. Most recently, Montevallo topped Mars Hill, 15-6, on Feb. 16 in Mars Hill, N.C.
Montevallo leads the Gulf South Conference with an average of 17.00 points per game on 11.83 goals per game and 5.17 assists per game. The Falcons rank third in the conference with an average of 18.83 shots on goal per game with a total of 23.50 shots per game. Defensively, Montevallo forces an average of 10.00 caused turnovers per game while picking up 18.17 ground balls per game.
Ellery Shearer leads Montevallo's frontline with a total of 19 points on 18 goals and an assist while leading the team with six free-position goals on seven free-position shots.
Claire Withington leads the squad with five assists while adding 11 goals for 16 points while adding 11 ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Madison Sobolewski and
Bridget Quayle highlight UM's defense with eight caused turnovers each while Sobolewski leads the team with 12 ground balls.

Young Harris holds a 2-2 record heading into the meeting with Montevallo on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Lions opened the season with a 12-10 loss on the road at Lincoln Memorial before topping Converse, 18-13, on Feb. 12. In a third-straight road contest to open the season, Young Harris dropped a game to Lander, 17-6, on Feb. 15. Most recently, Young Harris picked up a 13-11 win over Lee on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Riley Parker highlights Young Harris' attack with 12 goals on the season to lead the team while Parker and Mary Troyer lead the squad with three assists apiece. Parker also highlights the defensive statistics with a team-high eight caused turnovers while pucking up eight ground balls. Troyer leads Young Harris with 12 draw controls. Abbie Gallagher and McKenna Graf have split time in net allowing 14.00 goals per game on a combined .323 save percentage.

Montevallo trails 2-11 in the all-time series since the two teams began facing off in 2016. Montevallo's two series win came on the bricks with the first coming in an 18-17 win on April 11, 2021. Most recently, Montevallo topped YHC, 14-9, on April 22, 2024, for the second UM win in the series.
