Softball Set to Host No. 24 West Alabama This Weekend

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team is set to host a three-game series against No. 24 West Alabama at Softball Stadium at Orr Park this weekend.

So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 10-15 and a 4-8 mark in GSC play. The Falcons opened the season, splitting a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Gulf Shores Invitational, defeating No. 24 Oklahoma Christian (3-2) and falling to No. 9 Rogers State. Montevallo posted a 3-2 record at the Chillout, as the Falcons earned wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (4-0), Shorter (4-3), and Young Harris (9-7), before falling to Georgia Southwestern and Lincoln Memorial. The Falcons opened conference play with a 2-1 series victory at West Florida. The next week the Falcons split a midweek doubleheader with Spring Hill, before dropping the weekend series with Mississippi College (2-1). Montevallo then split its midweek doubleheader with Columbus State, before dropping three games to No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene on the weekend.

Last week, the Falcons dropped a pair of midweek games at Georgia Southwestern, before falling in the weekend series to Alabama Huntsville (2-1). After dropping the first two games, the Falcons responded with a 3-2 win in game three.

On the season, Becca Benton posts a .328 batting average, while leading the team in doubles (six), home runs (two), RBIs (12), and slugging percentage (.569). Riley Tyree has a team leading-22 hits.

Taylor Lloyd has seen the most time in the circle this season, totaling 75.2 innings pitched. The junior has recorded four wins and 49 strikeouts, while posting a 2.59 ERA. Kinsley Byrd has posted a 0.88 ERA in 16 innings pitched.

West Alabama holds an overall record of 14-9 and a 7-5 mark in GSC play. The Tigers opened the season with a 3-2 mark at the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Tigers followed that up by splitting doubleheaders with No. 10 Tampa and Saint Leo, before sweeping a doubleheader with Florida Southern. West Alabama swept No. 16 Mississippi College to open conference play, before dropping its next series (2-1) to No. 2 Auburn Montgomery. The Tigers then swept Christian Brothers, before getting swept by Valdosta State.

Marissa Mitchell has led the way for UWA this season, leading the team in multiple categories including batting average (.429), runs (23), hits (27), triples (four), and home runs (seven). Mitchell and Ann Marie Standbridge share a team leading-20 RBIs.

A pair of Tigers have shared most of the time in the circle. Madison Wright (7-5) posts a 3.46 ERA in 78 innings pitched, while Eleanor De Block (7-2) posts a 2.48 ERA in 58 innings pitched.

Series History Against West Alabama…
These two squads have met 22 times this season with the Tigers holding a 12-11 advantage in the series. The last time these two teams met, the Tigers earned a 6-5 win in the 2023 GSC Tournament.
