Falcons Travel to Rollins for Friday Meeting

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse heads out for a two-game road trip over spring break with a trip to No. 14 Rollins on Friday, March 21.
 
So Far This Season…
The Falcons head into Friday night's meeting with a 5-4 overall record after opening the season with a 16-15 road win over Converse on Jan. 31. Montevallo fell to Emmanuel on the road, 18-16, on Feb. 2 for the first loss of the season. The Falcons then fell in consecutive ranked matchups with a Feb. 7 loss to No. 12 Lynn before falling to No. 15 Embry-Riddle on Feb. 9. Montevallo returned to the win column with a 14-13 overtime win on Feb. 14 over Tusculum. The Falcons added a 15-6 win over Mars Hill on the road on Feb. 16 before falling to Young Harris on March 1 to end the three-game road trip. The Falcons returned home for an 11-9 win over McKendree on March 9 before topping Thomas More, 20-6, in its most recent outing.
 
Montevallo leads the Gulf South Conference with an average of 19.00 points per game on league-highs with 12.78 goals and 6.22 assists per game. Montevallo scores its league-high goals per game on just 24.33 shots per game with 19.67 shots on goal. The Falcons pick up an average of 20.44 ground balls per game while winning a second-best mark of 12.78 draw controls per game. Defensively, Montevallo allows just 13.88 goals per game on a .357 save percentage while forcing 11.56 caused turnovers per game.
 
Ellery Shearer leads the GSC with a total of 30 goals while ranking second in the conference with a total of 33 points while also leading the team with seven free-position goals. Claire Withington ranks second on the team with 26 points on 18 goals and eight assists while Mikaela Barbieri leads the team with nine assists. Kiley Shea highlights Montevallo with 27 draw controls on the season.

Rollins hosts Montevallo as the No. 20 team in Div. II with a 6-2 overall record after opening the season with loss to No. 1 Tampa on Feb. 8. The Tars picked up a 9-5 win over No. 17 Limestone before falling to No. 22 Florida Tech, 14-12, on Feb. 21. Rollins kicked off a five-game win streak with a 13-9 win over No. 6 Adelphi before topping Anderson, 16-9, on Feb. 28. Rollins opened March with a 10-5 home win over Lenoir-Rhyne on March 6. The Tars added a 21-7 win over Lee on March 10 before topping Alabama Huntsville, 13-11, on March 16.
 
Rollins averages 18.88 points per game on an average of 12.88 goals and 6.00 assists. The Tars fire a total of 26.13 shots per game with a .493 shooting percentage with an average of 21.13 shots on goal per game. Rollins also tallies an average of 14.13 draw controls per game while picking up 13.25 ground balls per contest. Defensively, Rollins allows just 10.75 goals per game with a .317 save percentage while causing an average of 5.88 turnovers per game.
 
Katie Bell highlights Rollins' attack with 27 goals while adding two assists for 29 points while Delaney Hudson leads the team with 30 points on 14 goals and a team-high 16 assists. Holyn Trautwein has tallied a whopping 42 draw controls while Sydney Nickel leads the defense with 12 caused turnovers.
 
Series History Against Rollins:
Montevallo is 0-3 all time against Rollins with a pair of losses on the road and a loss in Alabama. The series began with a 20-4 Rollins win on Jan. 31, 2020, before the Tars added an 11-7 win on March 11, 2023. Most recently, the Falcons fell on the road, 25-3, on Feb. 11, 2024.
