VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Montevallo softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday (0-5, 7-9) to open the three-game series at Valdosta State.
GAME ONE
The Blazers shut down the Falcon offense in game one, as Montevallo failed to push any runs across.
Valdosta State used a pair of home runs in the first two innings to take an early 3-0 advantage. The Blazers added runs in the third and fourth innings to take home the 5-0 victory.
Taylor Lloyd and
Kinsley Byrd split time in the circle in game one. Lloyd recorded three strikeouts in three innings, while Byrd only allowed one run in her three innings of work.
Four Falcons recorded hits in the game, including
Riley Tyree,
Kennedy Hussey,
Skylar Johnson, and
Emma Hawkins.

GAME TWO
A trio of Falcons saw action in game two, as
Berkley Mooney picked up all three Falcon strikeouts and
Rachel Whiddon allowed no runs in three innings of work.
Montevallo looked to strike first in game two, with
Bentlee Stiner and
Ariana Pinder hiting back-to-back singles, and
Molly Pendley reaching on an error to load the bases with one out in the top of the first inning.
Becca Benton hit a two-RBI single to score Stiner and Pinder, putting Montevallo ahead, 2-0.
Valdosta State provided a big response in the bottom half of the inning, putting up a five-spot to take a, 5-2, advantage.
The Blazers added another run in the bottom of the second inning to extend its lead to, 6-2.
Montevallo responded with a run of its own in the top of third, as
Bentlee Stiner scored on an error to cut the deficit to, 6-3.
The Falcons looked to continue to push in the top of the fourth, as UM loaded the bases in the top of the fourth. Montevallo was unable to push any runs across as the score remained, 6-3.
The Blazers loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning and ultimately put three runs on the board to extend the VSU lead to, 9-3.
Montevallo looked to cut into the lead in the top of the sixth, as
Emma Hawkins started things off with a leadoff single.
Riley Tyree followed that up with an RBI-single to score Hawkins and cut the advantage to, 9-4.
Becca Benton added an RBI-single a few batters later to score
Bentlee Stiner, cutting the deficit to, 9-5. The Falcons were not done yet, as
Kennedy Hussey singled down the left line to bring in Benton and
Ariana Pinder, cutting the deficit to two runs, 9-7.
Rachel Whiddon shut down the Blazers in the bottom of the sixth, keeping the score differential at two runs heading into the seventh inning.
Ariana Pinder and
Molly Pendley earned singles in the top of the seventh, but the Falcons were unable to score as Valdosta State secured the series victory with the 9-7 win in game two.
