AMERICUS, Ga. – The Montevallo softball team dropped a pair of games in a midweek doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern (0-9, 3-4) on Tuesday.
GAME ONE
The Lady Canes used a pair of big innings to capture the win over the Falcons in game one.
Georgia Southwestern put up a four-spot in the second inning, taking an early 4-0 lead. Montevallo looked to build momentum in the top of the fourth, as
Becca Benton and
Bradie Bush hit back-to-back singles to put two on with no outs, but the Falcons were unable to capitalize.
Georgia Southwestern scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take home the 9-0 victory.

GAME TWO
Berkley Mooney earned the start in the circle in game two. Mooney held the Lady Canes hitless, while racking up four strikeouts and allowing three earned runs.
Kinsley Byrd finished the game in the circle, allowing three hits and no runs through 3.1 innings pitched.
The Lady Canes struck first, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Falcons entered the scoring column for the first time, as
Ellie Derrick hit an RBI-double to score
Emma Hawkins, tying the game, 1-1, in the top of the third.
Georgia Southwestern responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, pulling ahead, 4-1.
Montevallo looked to score again in the top of the sixth, as
Riley Tyree hit a double and
Madison Fargo followed that up with a single.
Kennedy Hussey hit an RBI-double to score both runners and cut the deficit to one run, 4-3.
The Lady Canes looked to respond in the bottom of the sixth, putting a pair of runners in scoring position, but the Falcon defense turned a double play to end the inning, keeping the score differential at one run heading into the final inning.
Montevallo opened the top of the seventh with a leadoff walk, but the Falcons were unable to move her into scoring position, as the Lady Canes took home the 4-3 victory in game two.
