Montevallo Set to Take on McKendree

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse is set to host McKendree for the first home game in a month on Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo heads into Sunday with a 3-4 overall record after opening the season with 16-15 road win over Converse on Jan. 31. The Falcons then dropped a close game on the road at Emmanuel on Feb. 2. Montevallo then fell to No. 12 Lynn and No. 15 Embry-Riddle in back-to-back home games. The Falcons returned to winning ways with a 14-13 overtime road win over Tusculum on Feb. 14. Montevallo then added a 15-6 road win over Mars Hill on Feb. 16 before, most recently, falling to Young Harris, 17-13, on the road on March 1.
 
Montevallo ranks second in the Gulf South Conference with an average of 12.00 goals per game while adding a second-best 5.29 assists per game for a total 17.29 points per game. The Falcons fire an average of 22.86 shots per game with 18.29 shots on goal per game while tallying 5.4 free position shots per game. Defensively, Montevallo averages a GSC second-best 10.29 caused turnovers per game while picking up an average of 19.29 ground balls. The Falcons lead the GSC with an average of 12.86 draw controls per game.
 
Ellery Shearer is the league's top scorer with 24 goals while adding an assist for a team-high 25 points. Claire Withington ranks second on the team with 18 points on 13 goals and five assists while Mikaela Barbieri leads Montevallo with six assists. Withington also leads Montevallo with 13 ground balls while Madison Sobolewski has also tallied 13 ground balls with a team-high nine caused turnovers.

McKendree enters the weekend with a 4-0 overall record after opening the season with a 19-6 win over Northwood before adding a n 18-13 win over Walsh on Feb. 21. The Bearcats went on to add a 19-14 win over Thomas More on Feb. 28. Most recently, McKendree took down Ursuline College in a dominant 23-2 win on the road on March 3.
 
McKendree leads the Great Lake Valley Conference with an average of 19.75 goals per game through four games while adding a league-best 10.25 assists for a GLVC-high 30.00 points per game. The Bearcats have taken an average of 35.50 shots per game with 27.00 shots on goal per contest which both lead the GLVC. Defensively, McKendree forces 11.75 caused turnovers per game while scooping up 19.25 ground balls per game. McKendree's keepers allow just 8.75 goals per game on a .485 save percentage. The Bearcats also lead the GLVC with an average of 18.75 draw controls per game.
 
Jayna Barnden leads McKendree with a total of 25 goals while adding nine assists for a team-high 34 points. Ariyah LaFrance leads the squad with a total of 12 assists while adding 10 goals for 22 points. Barnden also highlights the Bearcats' defense with a team-high eight caused turnovers while leading the team with 13 ground balls. In the net, Amber Hayden has carried the bulk of the load with just 11.63 goals allowed per game on a .500 save percentage with 22 total saves.
