Falcons Host No. 22 Lander for Senior Day

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse closes the 2025 regular season when the Falcons host No. 22 Lander on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m.
 
So Far This Season…
The Falcons enter the weekend with a 5-9 overall record and an 0-3 mark on Gulf South Conference play. UM's season-opener featured a 16-15 road win over Converse on Jan. 31 before the Falcons fell in an 18-16 loss to Emmanuel on Feb. 2. Montevallo's first home stand of the season saw the Falcons drop back-to-back games to No. 12 Lynn and No. 15 Embry-Riddle in early February. The Falcons returned to the win column with a 14-13 overtime win over Tusculum on Feb. 14 before picking up a 15-6 win over Mars Hill on Feb. 16. On March 1, the Falcons dropped a road meeting with Young Harris, 17-13, before returning home for an 11-9 victory over McKendree on March 9. Montevallo's largest win of the season came on March 11 win the Falcons exploded for a 20-6 win over Thomas More. The Falcons went on the road for a pair of losses against No. 14 Rollins and Palm Beach Atlantic to close nonconference play. Montevallo opened the GSC schedule with a 19-10 loss to Alabama Huntsville at home before falling to Lee on the road, 18-10, on April 5. Most recently, Montevallo dropped a game to No. 11 Flagler, 16-5, on April 12.
 
The Falcons' attack averages 16.50 points per game on 11.14 goals and 5.36 assists per game. UM's 11.14 goals come off an average of 21.57 shots and 17.36 shots on goal per game for a .517 shots percentage. Defensively, Montevallo averages 9.64 caused turnovers per game while picking up 18.86 ground balls and recording an average of 8.71 saves per game. On the draw, Montevallo is good for 12.00 draw controls per game.
 
Ellery Shearer leads Montevallo with 41 points on 39 goals and two assists with a 10-for-14 mark on free position shots. Claire Withington follows close behind with 40 points on 29 goals and 11 assists while adding 23 ground balls. Kiley Shea holds Montevallo's top draw control mark with a total of 41 on the season while adding 31 points on 23 goals and eight assists. Defensively, Bridget Quayle leads the squad with 20 caused turnovers while picking up 29 ground balls.

Lander enters the weekend as the No. 22 team in the IWLCA rankings after posting an 11-3 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play. The Lady Bearcats opened the season with a loss to Limestone but kicked off a six-game win streak with an 18-11 win over Converse on Feb. 8. Lander would add wins over Anderson and Young Harris before taking a slim 7-6 win over Newberry on Feb. 19. Lander picked up a 14-4 win over PBA before topping Belmont Abbey, 15-7 on March 1. The Lady Bearcats fell to No. 2 Florida Southern on March 8 but topped No. 14 Slippery Rock 10-9 on March 15. Lander closed the nonconference slate with a 12-10 win over No. 20 Florida Tech before topping Lee, 15-7, to open GSC action on March 22. Lander's third loss of the season came at the hands of No. 11 Flagler on March 29 before Lander added a 10-8 win over Mount Olive. Most recently, Lander moved to 2-1 in league play with a 13-12 win over UAH on April 17.
 
The Lady Bearcats tally an average of 17.07 points per game on 11.93 goals and 5.14 assists while recording a .480 shots percentage on 24.86 shots and 19.00 shots on goal per game. Defensively, Lander averages a league-high 12.64 caused turnovers per game while allowing a league-best 8.72 goals per game on a .498 save percentage.
 
Lander is led by Brooke Kelly with 40 points on 36 goals and four assists while adding 38 draw controls. Mickey Burnett ranks second on the squad with 38 points on 29 goals and nine assists while Sophie Warren leads the team with 23 assists on the season. Autumn Huskey highlights Landers' defense with 42 caused turnovers while picking up 48 ground balls. In the net, Kara Krusbe allows just 8.86 goals per game with a .491 save percentage and a total of 118 saves.
 
Series History Against Lander:
Lander leads the all-time series against Montevallo with a 3-1 record since the series began in 2021. The Falcons lone win over the Lady Bearcats came on April 16, 2021, in a 15-13 home victory before Lander went on a three-game win streak over UM. Most recently, Montevallo fell to Lander, 20-7, on the road on March 10, 2024.
