Softball Closes Regular Season with Road Series at No. 6 Auburn Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team closes the 2025 regular season this weekend with a road series against in-state foe Auburn Montgomery (Apr. 25-26).

So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 29-20 and a 18-12 mark in GSC play.

The Falcons opened the season, splitting a pair of games against ranked opponents at the Gulf Shores Invitational, defeating No. 24 Oklahoma Christian and falling to No. 9 Rogers State. Montevallo posted a 3-2 record at the Chillout, which included wins over Kentucky Wesleyan, Shorter, and Young Harris. The Falcons opened conference play with a 2-1 series victory at West Florida. The next week the Falcons split a midweek doubleheader with Spring Hill, before dropping the weekend series against Mississippi College (2-1). Montevallo then split its midweek doubleheader with Columbus State, before dropping three games at No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene on the weekend. The Falcons followed that up dropping a pair of midweek games at Georgia Southwestern, before falling in the weekend series to Alabama Huntsville (2-1). Montevallo went on to win five in a row, sweeping No. 24 West Alabama at home and notching a pair of run rule victories over Miles. The Falcons dropped its next series to Valdosta State, before rebounding with a doubleheader sweep at Miles and a 2-1 series victory at Lee. Montevallo won its second consecutive conference series the next weekend, sweeping Delta State at home. After splitting a doubleheader at Spring Hill, the Falcons continued its strong surge in conference play, sweeping Christian Brothers and Union.

On the season, Bentlee Stiner has the highest batting average (.353) and on-base percentage (.442), while also holding team leads in runs scored (39) and stolen bases (eight). Riley Tyree has recorded the most hits (53), doubles (12), and triples (five), while Molly Pendley has team leads in home runs (nine) and slugging percentage (.594). Becca Benton has a team leading 34 RBIs.

Taylor Lloyd has seen most of the time in the circle and holds a 14-9 record. Lloyd has recorded 126 strikeouts and posts a 2.20 ERA in 156 innings of work. Rachel Whiddon is 7-4 on the season and posts a 3.18 ERA in 55 innings of work.

Auburn Montgomery ranks No. 6 in the nation and holds a 32-9 overall record with a 23-7 mark in GSC play. The Warhawks have went 9-2 in conference action throughout the season, which includes wins over then-No. 9 Rogers State and then-No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne. AUM opened conference play strong, sweeping then-No. 9 Trevecca Nazarene. The Warhawks captured back-to-back series victories over West Alabama (2-1) and Lee (3-0), before dropping its first series at Mississippi College, falling in all three games in Clinton, Miss. The Warhawks responded with a sweep of Christian Brothers. AUM followed that up with three consecutive 2-1 series victories over Alabama Huntsville, West Florida, and Valdosta State. The Warhawks have captured sweeps in its last two series over Union and Delta State.

On the season, Chloe Baynes posts the highest batting average (.398) and on-base percentage (.475), while Haley Ann Frank has recorded a team leading 52 hits. The Warhawks have been strong in the circle, as Chelisa Newsome and Reese Cauley rank first and second in ERA and opposing batting average in the GSC. Newsome (14-3) posts a 1.25 ERA in 95.1 innings, while Cauley (16-4) posts a 1.48 ERA in 132 innings of work.

Series History Against Auburn Montgomery…
Since 2016, these two squads have met 24 times with AUM holding a 19-5 advantage in the overall series. The Warhawks won all three games in Montevallo last year.
