Falcons Open Week with Solid Showing in Samford Multi

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo opened its second weekend of indoor action on Thursday, Jan. 15, as six Falcons competed in the Samford Multi.

Five Falcon women competed in the Pentathlon, as Saskia Rhind led the way for the Falcons and finished fourth overall with 3267 points. Rhind placed in the top ten in all five events, which included a pair of third-place finishes in the High Jump (1.57m) and Shot Put (10.82m). Rhind placed fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:32.23. Asta Hagglund was the next best finisher for UM, placing ninth overall with a point total of 2980. Hagglund's best events came in the High Jump (third – 1.57m) and 800m (eighth - 2:36.92). Hallie Harrell placed 11th overall with a point total of 2871. Harrell captured a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 60m Hurdles (9.56) and Shot Put (10.29m). Makala Sims and Lauren Byrne also competed in the Pentathlon on the day.

Adam Byrne was the lone male to compete for Montevallo in the Heptathlon and sits in eighth place with 2438 points after four events. His best event came in the High Jump where he place fifth with a jump of 1.89m. Byrne also earned a top-ten finish in the Shot Put, as he placed ninth with a distance of 11.34m. The last three events will take place on Friday morning.

Montevallo returns to action for the Samford Invite and Multi tomorrow.
