MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo Track and Field heads to Atlanta, Ga., to compete in the Emory Spring Break Classic this weekend.
Montevallo continued its solid start to outdoor season with 27 podium finishes and multiple school records broken at the Falcon Classic and Multi last weekend.
On the men's side, Zak Ferguson was named GSC Track Athlete and Freshman of the Week, after setting a school record in the 800m with a time of 1:52.73. Ferguson's 800m time ranks first in the GSC and fourth in DII. Christopher Johnson led the way for the throwers, as he set a pair of school records in the Discus (55.24m) and Shot Put (15.10m). Johnson's 55.24m in the Discus currently ranks first in the GSC and second in DII. Jeremiah Fails earned top-five finishes in the 100m (10.68), 200m (21.59), and the Long Jump (7.06m), while contributing to a 40.98 ran in the 4x100m Relay and a 3:19.02 in the 4x400m Relay.
On the women's side, Leah Dendy was named GSC Field Athlete of the Week, after placing first in the Pole Vault with a height of 3.45m. She currently ranks first in the GSC in Pole Vault and top-20 in DII. Katie Wilkerson led the way for the throwers, earning a pair of podium finishes in the Discus (second – 41.36m) and Javelin (third – 38.71m). Ka'Mya Jackson led the way for the Falcons on the track, setting a school record in the 400m (57.22). Jackson currently holds top-ten times in the GSC for the 400m and the 200m.
