EVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse is set to open the 2026 regular season on the road on Friday, Jan. 30 at Newberry.
The Falcons' 2026 campaign features 15 outings for Head Coach
Adrianna Piontek's squad sparked by a two-game road trip at Newberry on Jan. 30 before heading to Shorter on Feb. 7. Montevallo's home opener is set for Feb. 14 against Young Harris before hosting Emmanuel on Feb. 21. The Falcons cap the four-game homestand against Embry-Riddle and Saint Leo on Feb. 27 and March 1, respectively. Montevallo then heads back out to North Greenville on March 7 before traveling to Belmont Abbey on March 14. Montevallo then hosts Gulf South Conference newcomer Virginia State on March 16 before heading out for a two-game road trip in south Florida to take on Lynn and Palm Beach Atlantic. Montevallo then heads down the regular season stretch with a road trip to Alabama Huntsville before going to Lander on April 4. The Falcons close the regular season with a pair of home games on April 11 and 18 against Flagler and Lee, respectively.
The Gulf South Conference tournament is set for April 24-26 with the league's top four teams competing for the conference title. The GSC semifinals will be played on April 24 at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex before the conference will crown a champion on April 26.
On Jan. 21, the GSC announced its Preseason Coaches' Poll and the Preseason All-Conference squad alongside the GSC Newcomer Watchlist. Flagler topped the 2026 GSC Preseason Coaches' Poll while Lander and UAH each tied for second place. The Falcons were voted T-4
th in the league with Lee tying the Falcons in the poll. GSC newcomer Virginia State rounds out the poll in sixth.
Ellery Shearer was named Preseason All-GSC as one of five attackers on the all-conference squad. The 2025 Second Team All-GSC selection closed the 2025 season with a team-high 47 points on 45 goals and two assists while adding an 11-for-15 mark in free-positions shots. Shearer also tallied 15 grounds balls in 2025 while also picking up 14 caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls.
The GSC Newcomer Watchlist featured a pair of Montevallo transfers in
Gencie Coan and
Kennedy Goddard while freshman defender
Hailey Jasuta was Montevallo's lone freshman named to the team.
Coan, a senior midfielder, comes to Montevallo, Ala. after spending the first three seasons of her career at Converse University. In her career, Coan has scored a total of 100 goals while adding 53 assists for 153 points while posting an 11-for-30 mark in free-position shots in three seasons. Coan set the Converse record for most career draw controls with 174 in her 49 appearances as a Valkyrie.
Goddard enters her first season as a Falcon after spending two seasons at Queens University of Charlotte where the junior appeared in five games and tallied a ground ball.
Jasuta, a freshman defender from Lexington, S.C., opens her collegiate career on the bricks after playing four seasons at Lexington High School. The freshman earned a pair of Frist Team All-State honors in 2024 and 2025 after picking up a total of 105 ground balls in her career while adding 50 caused turnovers.
The Falcons also return
Claire Withington who ranked second on the 2025 squad with 42 total points on 31 goals and 11 assists while posting a pair of game-winning goals. The senior attacker added 24 ground balls a season ago while recording nine caused turnovers.
Mikaela Barbieri returns as the Falcons' top assister from the 2025 campaign with a team-high 14 assists while adding 16 goals for 30 points. In the net,
Ashlei Piazza lead the 2025 team with 62 saves while posting a 15.39 goals against average.
