BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Montevallo Track and Field opened the 2026 indoor season on Friday, Jan. 9, with a strong showing at the UAB Blazer Invite.
On the men's side, a pair of Falcons secured first-place finishes in Zak Ferguson and Alonzo Abara. Ferguson secured his top-finish in the Men's 3000m, clocking in at 8:34.45. The freshman was dominant, as he finished 30 seconds ahead of the next best finisher. He also placed ahead of two NCAA DI opponents. Abara earned a first-place finish in the Pole Vault, with a height of 4.58m. Abara also placed ahead of a pair of NCAA DI opponents.
Patrick Sherrill performed well in the 500m, placing fifth with a time of 1:06.74. Dwight Bellamy led the way for the Falcon men in sprints, placing seventh in the 200m with a time of 22.17. Walter Womack finished right behind him, placing eighth with a time of 22.19.
Christopher Johnson led the way for the throwers, placing sixth in the Weight Throw with a distance of 16.51, while Cooper Myl placed seventh in the Shot Put with a distance of 15.03m. The Falcons saw a pair of fifth place finishes in the Triple Jump (Drew Cheslock – 13.37m) and High Jump (Eran Foye Jr. – 1.95m). Jeremiah Fails set a new personal record, as he recorded a 60m time of 6.94.
On the women's side, Cesleigh Martin posted the top finish of the day, as she placed fourth in the Shot Put with a distance of 12.27m. A pair of Falcons earned fifth-place finishes in Deserae Thomas (Triple Jump – 10.74m) and Leah Dendy (Pole Vault – 3.23m).
Sarah Turner led the way on the track for the women, clocking in at 3:23.92 in the 1000m. A pair of Falcons set personal records in Hallie Harrell (60m Hurdles – 9.47) and Vivian Jones (Weight Throw – 11.60m).
Montevallo closes the weekend with the UAB Vulcan Invite on Saturday.
