BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Montevallo men's and women's track field teams opened the first day of the Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships with five podium finishes and multiple personal records.
The Montevallo men garnered 37 points to sit in third place overall after day one.
Four Falcon men earned podium finishes on the day, with Jeremiah Fails earning the highest place finish, placing second in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.74m. Corey Perkins finished right behind him with a jump of 6.72m to place third. Alonzo Abara and Cooper Myl also captured podium finishes, as Abara placed third in the Pole Vault (4.60m) and Myl finished third in the Shot Put (15.92m). Montevallo saw two other top-six finishes in the Shot Put, as Caleb Newell placed fourth (15.92m) and Christopher Johnson finished sixth (15.41m).

Cesleigh Martin earned the lone podium finish on the women's side, placing second in the Shot Put with a distance of 12.72m. Leah Dendy placed fourth in the Pole Vault with a height of 3.35m. The Falcons had a strong showing in the Pentathlon as, Saskia Rhind placed fourth (3302), Hallie Harrell placed fifth (3023), and Asta Hagglund placed sixth (2974). Ava Taylor earned the highest place finish on the track, placing sixth in the 5000m with a time of 18:08.00. Four other Falcon women earned top-ten finishes in Hallie Harrell (Long Jump – 5.27m), Makayla Amador (Long Jump – 5.09m), McKenna Jackson (Shot Put -11.64m), and Khila Corrothers (Long Jump – 5.06m).
Montevallo is back tomorrow to close action at the GSC Indoor Championships.
