Falcons Close GSC Indoor Championships with Fourth-Place Team Finishes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Montevallo track and field teams closed the weekend with a pair of fourth place finishes at the Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships.

The Montevallo men garnered 115 points to secure the fourth-place finish overall. Lee earned 213 points to pick up the top spot, while UAH (148) and Mississippi College (121) rounded out the top three.

Three Falcon men earned four podium finishes on the day. Drew Cheslock earned a pair of podium finishes as he placed second in the Triple Jump with a jump of 13.85 and third in the 400m with a NCAA DII provisional standard time of 48.11. Zak Ferguson also earned a podium finish and provisional standard in the One Mile, as he placed second in the One Mile with a time of 4:05.22. Jack Pesarchick captured a podium finish in the High Jump, placing second in the High Jump with a jump of 2.01m.

The Falcons also saw top-five finishes from Christopher Johnson (Weight Throw: fourth – 16.72m), Amari Lewis (60m: fourth – 6.99 and 200m: fifth – 22.03). Four Falcons earned six sixth-place finishes in Jeremiah Fails (200m – 22.11, 60m – 7.04, 400m – 49.41), Corey Perkins (High Jump – 1.95m), Jordon Harmon (Triple Jump – 12.65m), and Zak Ferguson (3000m – 8:27.28).

Montevallo also had four other individual point score finishes, with seven-place finishes from Aidan Baker (Triple Jump – 12.46m) and Jordon Harmon (High Jump – 1.90m), and eighth-place finishes from Jayden Smith (High Jump – 1.85m) and Caleb Newell (Weight Throw – 15.52m).

The Men's 4x400m Relay Team of Amari Lewis, Jeremiah Fails, Dwight Bellamy, and Drew Cheslock closed the day placing fourth with a time of 3:19.10.

The Montevallo women earned 55.33 points to earn the fourth-place finish. Lee garnered 239.5 points to earn the top spot, while UAH (176.16) and Mississippi College rounded out the top three (114.5).

Natania Nasieku earned the lone podium finish on the women's side, placing third in the Triple Jump with a jump of 11.54m. Ka'Mya Jackson and Deserae Thomas picked up top-five finishes, as Jackson placed fourth in the 400m (58.41) and Thomas placed fifth in the 60m (7.82).

Montevallo had three other women earn points on the day, as Saskia Rhind placed sixth in the High Jump (1.55m), Kaitlyn Stephens placed eighth in the High Jump (1.50m), and Sarah Turner placed eighth in the 800m (2:21.65).

The Women's 4x400m Relay Team of Kiliyah Taylor, Makala Sims, Farrah Hawkins, and Ka'Mya Jackson closed the day placing fifth with a time of 4:17.83.

Overall, Montevallo left the indoor conference meet with six new school records in (Cooper Myl – Shot Put), Christopher Johnson (Weight Throw), Natania Nasieku (Triple Jump), Ka'Mya Jackson (400m), Drew Cheslock (400m), and Zak Ferguson (One Mile), while Alonzo Abara tied the Pole Vault school record.
