BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mason Woolever was named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week after a standout opening weekend for the Falcons, the league announced Tuesday.

The Sarasota, Fla., native hit .462 (6-for-13) in the season-opening series win against Hillsdale, recording two doubles, a home run, three RBI, two walks, and five runs scored. Woolever also added a pair of stolen bases over the weekend.

In Friday's opener, Woolever blasted a three-run shot to push UM to a 6-2 win. He added a 2-for-4 day at the plate on Sunday in the Falcons' 18-14 win in the series finale.

Woolever and the Falcons return to action Tuesday afternoon, opening midweek play with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch at Spring Hill.
