BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference released its first set of outdoor track and field weekly awards on Tuesday, as a trio of Falcons in Jeremiah Fails, Christopher Johnson, and Natania Nasieku all earned recognition.
Fails was named GSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after earning four podium finishes and setting multiple records at the Victor Icebreaker Duals. Fails earned a pair of individual second place finishes in the 200m and 100m. He set a school record in the 200m, finishing with a time of 21.31, which ranks first in the GSC and third in DII. He set a personal record in the 100m, finishing with a time of 10.81, which ranks second in the GSC and 38th in DII. Fails also contributed to a pair of first place finishes in the relays, which included a school record time of 3:17.55 in the 4x400m Relay. He contributed to a 41.44 ran in the 4x100m Relay. Both times rank first in the GSC and top-20 across DII.
Christopher Johnson was named GSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after a strong performance in the Discus Throw at the Victor Icebreaker Duals. Johnson set a school record and earned an NCAA Provisional Standard with a distance of 54.32m. Johnson's 54.32m currently ranks first overall across DII.
Natania Nasieku was named GSC Women's Freshman of the Week after strong performances in two events at the Victor Icebreaker Duals. Nasieku most notably earned a first-place finish in the Triple Jump with a distance of 11.29m. Her jump ranks first in the GSC and 16th in DII. She also competed in the 100m Hurdles where she finished with a time of 17.25 which ranks sixth in the GSC.
Montevallo Track and Field is back in action this week, as UM hosts the annual Falcon Classic (Mar. 13-14).
