MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo Athletics has named Men's Track & Field's
Zak Ferguson and Softball's
Bentlee Stiner as the Montevallo Players of the Week presented by Jack's for the week of February 9.
Zak Ferguson (Men's Track & Field)
Freshman distance runner
Zak Ferguson turned in a standout performance for the Falcons at the UAB Green and Gold Invite, highlighting the meet with a first-place finish against a highly competitive field.
Ferguson captured first place in the men's 3000-meter run with a time of 8:23.94, finishing ahead of 17 NCAA Division I competitors. His performance not only earned him the top spot but also marked a new personal record, showcasing his continued development early in his collegiate career.
Ferguson's effort led a strong day for the Falcons, who saw multiple top-five finishes and personal bests across the roster. His first-place result stood as the highest finish of the meet for Montevallo and set the tone for a productive weekend for the program.
Bentlee Stiner (Softball)
Senior infielder
Bentlee Stiner delivered an impactful weekend at the plate, helping lead Montevallo softball to a pair of wins at the Chattanooga Invitational with clutch hitting and consistent production.
In the Falcons' 10-9 win over Ohio Christian, Stiner hit her third home run of the season to spark Montevallo's comeback and added a single during a pivotal third-inning rally. She later crossed the plate during the surge that erased a five-run deficit, playing a key role in the Falcons' offensive momentum.
Stiner followed up with another strong performance in a 6-3 win over Young Harris. She recorded three hits and drove in two runs, including a two-RBI single in the second inning to give Montevallo an early advantage. She added a double in the fourth inning and later scored, continuing to apply pressure throughout the game.
Across this week, Stiner totaled eight hits, ten RBIs, a home run, and a double, providing timely offense as Montevallo closed the weekend undefeated.
