MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 16 Montevallo softball team heads to Jackson, Tenn., for the final road series of the season at Union.
Montevallo enters the week with a 37-7 overall record and an 18-6 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons won its seventh consecutive GSC series last weekend, taking two of three from Christian Brothers. Montevallo followed that up with a pair of victories over Spring Hill on Tuesday.
Taylor Rogers leads the way for the Falcons at the place, ranking second in the GSC in hits (57) and fifth in batting average (.410). Rogers has 37 stolen bases on the season which ranks second in the GSC and ninth in DII. Becca Benton is tied for first in the GSC in home runs (12), while Bentlee Stiner ranks second in the league in RBIs (44), followed by Benton with 43.
The Montevallo pitching staff has been solid all year, posting a 1.78 ERA which leads the GSC and ranks fourth in DII. Taylor Lloyd has been solid in the circle all season, leading the GSC with 22 wins which ranks second in DII. Lloyd ranks second in the GSC in ERA (1.97) and strikeouts, while leading the league in innings pitched (169.2) and complete games (21). Kinsley Byrd also ranks top-ten in the league in multiple categories, ranking third in ERA (1.97) and eighth in wins (ten).
Union enters the week with a 14-25 overall record and a 7-17 mark in GSC play. The Bulldogs took one of three from No. 6 AUM last weekend. Courtney Marler leads the way at the plate for the Bulldogs with a .322 batting average and 37 hits, while Chloe Jones holds team leads in RBIs (24) and home runs (four). Riley Vaughn (5-8) has seen the most time in the circle, holding a 2.94 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 83.1 innings of action.
