No. 20 Softball Set to Host No. 7 AUM in Top-20 Showdown

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team is set host a top-20 matchup this weekend, as the No. 20 Falcons welcome No. 7 AUM to Softball Stadium at Orr Park.

Montevallo enters the weekend with a 38-9 overall record and a 19-8 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons went 3-2 last week, picking up a pair of wins at Spring Hill, before dropping two-of-three at Union.

Taylor Rogers leads the way at the plate for Montevallo with a .388 batting average (ninth in GSC) and 57 hits (fourth in GSC). The freshman ranks second in the league in stolen bases with 43. Bentlee Stiner ranks third in the GSC in RBIs (44), followed by Becca Benton who ranks fourth with 43. Benton is tied for second in the league in home runs (12).

The Montevallo pitching staff has been solid this season, ranking second in the league in team ERA (1.84). Taylor Lloyd leads the way in the circle for Montevallo and is tied for a GSC leading 23 wins. The senior ranks second in the league in ERA (1.62), strikeouts (143), and complete games (22), while leading the league with 181.2 innings pitched. Kinsley Byrd has ten wins on the year and holds a 2.18 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 83.1 innings of action.

AUM enters the weekend with a 37-7 overall record and a 20-7 mark in GSC play. The Warhawks have won nine consecutive conference series, most recently taking three games from Delta State last weekend.

Chloe Baynes has been solid at the plate for AUM all season and leads the entire GSC in batting average (.465) and hits (.544), while also leading the league in stolen bases (46) and runs scored (49). Rebecca Komers holds a team leading 36 RBIs and Karris Rhine has a team leading seven home runs.

The AUM pitching staff currently posts the best team ERA (1.82) in the league. Reese Cauley leads the way in the circle for the Warhawks and posts the best ERA in GSC (1.43). Cauley is also tied for a GSC leading 23 wins, while ranking third in both strikeouts (136) and innings pitched (161.0). Chelisa Newsome (7-4) posts a 3.29 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 78.2 innings of action.

These two squads open the weekend with a doubleheader on Friday set to start at 2:00 p.m. CST.
