MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo Track and Field opened the Gulf South Conference Outdoor Championships with four podium finishes and two school records on Wednesday.

Jeremiah Fails had a solid day, earing a podium finish in the field and setting a school record on the track. Fails earned a podium finish in the Long Jump, placing second with a jump of 7.15m. Later in the day, he set a school record in the 200m prelims, clocking in at 20.88. Christopher Johnson earned a podium finish in the Hammer, placing third with a school record throw of 52.98m. Corey Perkins also captured a podium finish, placing third in the Long Jump with a jump of 7.09m.  Alonzo Abara secured the fourth and final podium finish for Montevallo, placing third in the Pole Vault with a 4.50m. Austin Abney also contributed to the Montevallo men's scoring on day one, placing fourth in the Pole Vault (4.40m) and fifth in the Long Jump (6.77m). Marquis Trainer placed eighth in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.59m.

Hallie Harrell earned the highest place finish for the women, placing sixth in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.37m. Makayla Amador finished right behind her, placing seventh with a jump of 5.33m. Mari Sofie Een and Lauren Dellezay placed seventh and eighth in Pole Vault, respectively, both recording identical heights of 2.80m.

Day two of the GSC Outdoor Championships is set to start at 10 a.m. CST.
