MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team is set to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance on Thursday. The sixth-seeded Falcons will face off against No. 3-seed West Alabama in the first round of the South Regional in Pensacola, Fla.
Montevallo holds an overall record of 39-16. Taylor Rogers and Taylor Lloyd were named First Team All-Gulf South Conference honorees, while Becca Benton and Emma Faulk earned second team honors. Riley Tyree was named on the GSC Gold Glove team. Rogers leads the way at the plate for Montevallo with a .358 batting average and 62 hits, while also recording 43 stolen bases. Bentlee Stiner holds a team leading 45 RBIs, while Benton has a team leading 12 home runs.
Lloyd leads the way in the circle with an overall record of 23-8. Lloyd posts a 1.96 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 196.1 innings of action. Kinsley Byrd (10-6) holds a 2.56 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 104 innings of work.
West Alabama holds an overall record of 43-12-1. The Tigers went a perfect 4-0 in Oxford last week to win the GSC Tournament. Haley Shannon leads the way for the Tigers at the plate with a .335 batting average and 62 hits. ShaKeria Washington has a team leading 44 RBIs, while Ella Watson and Trinity Hatcher are tied for a team leading 11 home runs.
Eleanor De Block leads the way in the circle with an overall record of 24-9. De Block posts a 1.51 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 185.1 innings of action. Megan Roe (16-2) holds a 2.55 ERA and 54 strikeouts.
Montevallo took two-of-three from West Alabama in Livingston earlier this season.
First pitch on Thursday is set for 3:30 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla.
