MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team (3-14, 0-9 PBC) played three matches in the last four days to close out their Spring Break road trip. The Falcons opened the four-day period with a 9-0 loss at #13 Francis Marion University (9-1, 5-1 PBC). UM then took down Converse College (4-9) 5-4 before falling to #30 Georgia College (8-3, 5-2 PBC), 9-0. The Falcons picked up singles wins from junior Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway/Bergen Handels Gymnasium), senior Calli Robinson (Adel, Ga./Cook) and sophomore Amy McGucken (Selma, Ala./Morgan Academy) against Converse.
Freshman Kayla Hackett (Chelsea, Ala./Chelsea) and senior Kodi Bobo (Chelsea, Ala./Chelsea) teamed up to win #2 doubles while McGucken and freshman Yulia Shvetsova (Huntsville, Ala./Bob Jones) won #3 doubles.
Nordgreen won 6-2, 6-2 at #1 singles, Robinson won 6-2, 6-2 at #3 singles and McGucken won 6-2, 6-2 at #5 singles. Hackett and Bobo rolled at #2 doubles 8-1 while McGucken and Shvetsova had to go to a tiebreaker at #3 doubles winning 9-8 (7-4).
Against Francis Marion Nordgreen won a game against the 35th-ranked player in the country losing 6-0, 6-1. McGucken led the team with four game wins losing 6-2, 6-2. Nordgreen and Robinson won a game against the fifth-ranked doubles team in the country losing 8-1 at #1 doubles.
Against Georgia College, Bobo came within a set of winning her match. She fell 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. McGucken was the only other Falcon to even win a game in the match falling 6-1, 6-0 at #5 singles.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, March 23 at 2 p.m. as they host the University of West Alabama.
