MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's tennis team is set to open play in the GSC Tournament on Thursday, taking on top-seeded and No. 7 nationally-ranked Mississippi College in the quarterfinal round. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.
The Falcons enter postseason play as the No. 8 seed with a 5-9 overall record.
Sophia Baillos,
Anna Nevada Henriksen,
Andrea Cano, and
Latizia Bojara lead the team with five singles victories apiece. In doubles action, the duo of
Klara Podskubkova and
Claire Jaramba has paced Montevallo with a 7-6 record during the regular season.
Mississippi College enters the tournament undefeated at 21-0 after capturing the GSC regular season title. The Choctaws are ranked No. 7 by the ITA and boast six nationally-ranked singles players. Emily Buchanan leads the group with a 17-2 record at the No. 1 position and holds the No. 4 national ranking. She is joined in the national rankings by Rocio Martinez Azcarraga (No. 38), Katharina Weber (No. 51), Rune Van Wyk (No. 63), Anna Hudson (No. 64), and Ann Cabot Stockett (No. 75). In doubles play, Buchanan and Stockett form the nation's No. 3-ranked pairing.
