LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to host University of West Alabama 5-4 in a non-conference match Feb. 26.
The Falcons (5-2) won two singles matches and two doubles matches against the Tigers.
Junior Niki Polcerova defeated Stanzi Stuijt of West Alabama 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Junior Liucija Smaizyte topped Natalia Cardenas of West Alabama 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles match.
Polcerova and junior Anais Robert defeated the Tigers' Christina Bettag and Shannon McEvoy 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles match. Senior Haley Highfield and sophomore Allison Howell topped Stuijt and Cardenas 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles match.
Robert fell to Sandra Florez of West Alabama 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 doubles match. Howell dropped the No. 4 singles match against Bettag, 6-3, 6-0.
Highfield fell to McEvoy 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles match. Sophomore Juanita Ossa fell to the Tigers' Dasha Popova 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles match.
Smaizyte and Ossa fell to Popova and Florez 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles match.
Montevallo will return to action Saturday, March 8 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at Georgia College. The Bobcats are ranked No. 27 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II women's tennis national rankings.
