CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated the University of West Georgia 9-0 in its season-opening match Feb. 8.
The Falcons swept all six singles matches and all three doubles matches.
Junior Niki Polcerova defeated the Wolves' Sierra Brown 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Junior Liucija Smaizyte topped Nicole Northrup of West Georgia 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles match.
Junior Anais Robert defeated Whitney Maples of West Georgia 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match. Sophomore Allison Howell edged the Wolves' Katherine Burger 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 4 singles match.
Senior Haley Highfield defeated Amanda Northrup of West Georgia 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles match. Sophomore Juanita Ossa wrapped up the sweep in singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kelly Arsenault of West Georgia in the No. 6 singles match.
Robert and Polcerova defeated Brown and Nicole Northrup 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles match. Howell and Highfield topped Maples and Burger 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles match.
Smaizyte and Ossa defeated Arsenault and Amanda Northrup 8-1 in the No. 3 singles match.
The Falcons return to action Sunday, Feb. 9 with a home match against Peach Belt Conference foe Armstrong Atlantic State University.
