MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team dropped their Sunday afternoon match against the visiting Francis Marion Patriots, 8-1.
Francis Marion is currently ranked 30th in Division II and 7th in the Southeast Region. They took all the singles matches and all but one of the doubles matches against Montevallo.
The No. 3 doubles match was the lone win for the Falcons, with Liucija Smaizytke and Juanita Ossa winning 8-2.
In No. 1 singles, Niki Polcerova fell 6-3, 6-0 to Samantha Koelliker. Smaizytke fell in the No. 2 singles match, losing 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 to Julia Graf.
Anais Robert dropped the No. 3 singles bout to Nora Westbye, falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. In No. 4 singles, Allison Howell was defeated by Kimberley Hunter, 6-0, 6-2.
Haley Highfield fell 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles match to Veronika Viegas. In No. 6 singles, Caitlin Siney topped Ossa.
Polcerova and Robert dropped the No. 1 doubles match to Graf and Westbye, 8-5. The No. 2 doubles match saw Koelliker and Hunter earn an 8-5 win over Howell and Highfield.
The Falcons, who are currently ranked 9th in the Southeast Region, are now 6-5 on the year and 3-4 in the Peach Belt Conference.
The next match for Montevallo is this Wednesday, March 26th. They will travel to Americus, Ga. to take on Georgia Southwestern in a PBC match.
