COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to host Columbus State University 5-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match April 10 featuring a pair of ranked teams.
The Falcons (8-7 overall, 5-6 in Peach Belt Conference), who are ranked No. 9 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, dropped two doubles matches and forfeited three matches against the Cougars, who are ranked No. 6 nationally and No. 2 in the Southeast Region.
Senior Haley Highfield and sophomore Juanita Ossa fell to Paola Cigui and Beatriz Leon of Columbus State 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles match. Junior Niki Polcerova and sophomore Allison Howell dropped the No. 2 doubles match against the Cougars' Olivera Jokic and Laura Chapman, 8-2.
Montevallo forfeited the No. 3 doubles match and two singles matches, giving the Cougars the 5-0 victory.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, April 12 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at Young Harris College.
