YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The University of Montevallo women's tennis team is now one step closer to their first ever trip to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament with a win Saturday afternoon against the Young Harris Mountain Lions, 7-2.
Montevallo won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches.
In the No. 1 singles match, Niki Polcerova won 6-3, 6-2. Liucija Smaizyte also won in the No. 2 singles match, earning an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win.
Anais Robert had to forfeit her No. 3 singles match. Allison Howell was victorious in the No. 4 singles match, winning in three sets.
Haley Highfield won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 6 singles, Juanita Ossa was victorious, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles, Polcerova and Robert fell at No. 1, 8-6. Howell and Highfield won the No. 2 match, 8-4. Smaizytke and Ossa rounded out the action with a dominant 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Falcons, who are currently ranked 9th in the Southeast Region, are now 9-7 on the year and 6-6 in the Peach Belt Conference.
The next match for Montevallo will be the final regular season match of the year. Tomorrow, April 13th, they take the short trip to Dahlonega to face the Nighthawks of North Georgia.
