MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to visiting GRU Augusta 6-3 in its Peach Belt Conference opener Feb. 13.
The Falcons won two singles' matches and two doubles' matches against the Jaguars.
Senior Nikola Polcerova defeated Aida Castany of GRU Augusta 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles' match. Junior Juanita Ossa topped the Jaguars' Maria Nadal 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in the No. 5 singles' match.
Polcerova and senior Anais Robert defeated Monica Gonzalez and Marie Vin of GRU Augusta 9-7 in the No. 1 doubles' match.
Sophomore Allison Howell fell to Gonzalez 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles' match. Robert fell to Cecila Pimental 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles' match. Freshman Grace-Laura Rowe dropped her No. 6 singles' match against the Jaguars' Amelia Pinoargote, 6-1, 6-2.
Rowe and Ossa fell to Castany and Maria Nadal 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles' match. Howell and senior Liucija Smaizyte dropped the No. 3 doubles' match against Pimental and Font, 8-6.
The Falcons will return to action Sunday, Feb. 15 against Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference match.
