MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team won all three doubles matches on its way to a 7-2 win over Georgia Southwestern University in a Peach Belt Conference match Feb. 21.
Senior Nikola Polcerova was most impressive for the Falcons (3-2 overall, 1-2 in Peach Belt Conference) in singles' action, defeating Carly Cangelosi Tori of Georgia Southwestern 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles' action.
Junior Allison Howell topped the Hurricanes' Sydnee Smith 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Senior Anais Robert defeated Ak Shaw of Georgia Southwestern 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles' match, while freshman Grace-Laura Rowe swept the Hurricanes' Ashley Denby 6-0, 6-1 in No. 5 singles' action.
After an impressive come back, senior Octavia Saunders dropped the tie breaker 10-7 against the Hurricanes' Jamie Thomas as she fell 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Polcerova and Robert defeated Cangelosi and Smith 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Howell and Rowe swept Shaw and Leahy 8-0 in No. 2 doubles' action.
Ossa and Saunders defeated Thomas and Denby with a 8-0 victory in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 25 in their regular season against visiting Lee University.
