MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team won all six singles' matches on its way to a 8-1 win over visiting Clark Atlanta University in its home opener Feb. 8.
Senior Octavia Saunders was most impressive for the Falcons (2-0) in singles' action, defeating Khadija Elder of Clark Atlanta 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Junior Juanita Ossa overcame a 4-1 deficit in the second set in No. 4 singles' action, defeating the Panthers' Vanessa Jean-Baptiste 6-2, 7-6 with an 8-6 edge in the tiebreaker.
Senior Nikola Polcerova defeated Tori Pradier of Clark Atlanta 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles' action. Junior Allison Howell topped the Panthers' Vonnick Boyogueno 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Senior Anais Robert defeated Avern Gumbs of Clark Atlanta 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles' match, while freshman Grace-Laura Rowe topped the Panthers' DiAndrea Galloway 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in No. 5 singles' action.
Polcerova and Robert defeated Boyogueno and Galloway 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles match. Howell and senior Liucija Smaizyte swept Elder and Jean-Baptiste 8-0 in No. 3 doubles' action.
Pradier and Gumbs recorded the Panthers' lone win with a 8-6 victory over Ossa and Rowe in the No. 2 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Thursday, Feb. 12 in their Peach Belt Conference opener against visiting GRU Augusta.
First serve is set for 12 p.m.
