HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The University of Montevallo women's tennis team defeated UNC Pembroke 6-3 in a Peach Belt Conference match March 6.
The Falcons (5-2 overall, 2-2 in Peach Belt Conference) swept all three doubles' matches against the Braves.
Seniors Nikola Polcerova and Anais Robert defeated the Braves' Leigh Anne McAfee and Shelby Bickel 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles' match.
Junior Allison Howell and freshman Grace-Laura Rowe topped Kelsey Vanquaethem and Gabriela van Ooststroom of UNC Pembroke 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles' match. Senior Octavia Saunders and junior Juanita Ossa defeated the Braves' Monica Espitia and Morgan Sheehan 8-6 in No. 3 doubles' action.
Polcerova, who is ranked No. 9 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings, topped McAfee 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles' match. Howell defeated Vanquaethem 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 in No. 2 singles' action.
Rowe defeated Sheehan 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Robert fell to Bickel 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles' action. Ossa dropped her No. 4 singles' match against Ooststroom 6-2, 2-6, 10-2.
Saunders fell to Espitia 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles' match.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, March 7 with a Peach Belt Conference match at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla.
