SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to top-ranked Armstrong State University 9-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match March 8.
The Pirates, who are ranked No. 1 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II poll, swept the Falcons (5-4 overall, 2-4 in Peach Belt Conference) in singles' and doubles' action.
Senior Nikola Polcerova battled Clara Perez of Armstrong State in the No. 1 singles' match. Polcerova, who is ranked No. 9 in the ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings, dropped the match against Perez, who is ranked No. 3 nationally, 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman Grace-Laura Rowe, juniors Allison Howell and Juanita Ossa, along with seniors Anais Robert and Octavia Saunders, fell 6-0, 6-0 in their singles' matches against the Pirates.
Polcerova and Robert fell to Perez and Lena Lutzeier of Armstrong State 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Howell and Rowe dropped the No. 2 doubles' match against the Pirates' Nicole Fossa Huergo and Carolina Prats-Milan 8-2.
Ossa and Saunders fell to Alejandra Cisneros and Lena Pacholski of Armstrong State 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Thursday, March 12 with a non-conference match against Stillman College on the University of Montevallo campus.
