MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team wrapped up its 2015 season with a 5-2 win over visiting Tuskegee University in a non-conference match April 21, celebrating the careers of six seniors playing their final match.
The Falcons (7-12) won two doubles' matches and three singles' matches to secure the victory.
Senior Nikola Polcerova capped her career with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Reicia North of Tuskegee in the No. 1 singles' match. Polcerova, who is ranked No. 5 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles' rankings, ends her decorated career as the Falcons' all-time leader in singles' victories with 52 career wins.
Fellow senior Anais Robert topped the Golden Tigers' Navilla Paul 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles' match. Freshman Grace-Laura Rowe defeated Kimberly Bowen of Tuskegee 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles' match.
Polcerova and Robert topped Bowen and North 8-1 in the No. 1 doubles' match, while Rowe and senior Octavia Saunders defeated Paul and Cheryl Dixon of Tuskegee 8-1 in No. 2 doubles' action. Polcerova picked a school-record 40th career doubles' victory.
Three singles' matches went unfinished, while the Falcons forfeited one singles' match and one doubles' match.
The Falcons celebrated the careers of Polcerova, Robert, Saunders, Meagan Stevens, Juanita Ossa and Liucija Smaizyte before the match.
