FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team fell to nationally-ranked Francis Marion University 5-1 in a Peach Belt Conference contest April 6.
The Patriots won two of three doubles' matches and three singles' matches, with the remaining three singles' matches going unfinished. Francis Marion entered the match ranked No. 30 nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II poll.
Junior Allison Howell and freshman Grace-Laura Rowe recorded the Falcons' lone win in No. 2 doubles' action after defeating Sofia Henning and Taylor Whisnant 8-4 .
Seniors Nikola Polcerova and Anais Robert dropped the No. 1 doubles' match against the Patriots' Julia Graf and Samantha Koelliker 8-2. Seniors Octavia Saunders and Meagan Stevens fell to Christina Graf and Mona Piller 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
Howell fell to Julia Graf 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles' match. Saunders dropped the No. 4 singles' match against Christina Graf, 6-3, 6-1. Rowe fell to Piller 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles' match.
Montevallo will return to action Saturday, April 11 on the road at USC Aiken in Aiken, South Carolina.
First serve is set for 11 a.m. Eastern/ 10 a.m. Central.
