MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's tennis team is off to a program best 4-0 start following a 5-4 victory Feb. 11 over in-state rival UAH.
Senior Allison Howell clinched the match for the Falcons with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over the Chargers' Aniek Remmerswaal in the No. 4 singles' match.
Montevallo took two of three doubles' matches and three singles' matches against UAH.
Freshman Alina Munteanu topped Marleen Gort of UAH 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles' match. Freshman Emily Beatty defeated Sarah Stearman of UAH 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Howell and freshman Alice Copland combined to defeat the Chargers' Remerswaal and Madison Gulick 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles' match. Beatty and freshman Julia Berg took down Cristina Cabanas and Marta Briega of UAH 9-7 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
Freshman Rayne Sinclair fell to Cabanas 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles' match. Berg fell to Naomi Esteve of UAH 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles' match, while freshman Lauren Pero dropped the No. 6 singles' match 6-1, 6-1 against Briega.
Munteanu and Sinclair fell to Gort and Stearman 8-1 in the No. 1 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Feb. 20 as they take on Georgia College on the road in Milledgeville, Georgia in their Peach Belt Conference opener.
