AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team picked up its first Peach Belt Conference win of the season Feb. 27 following a 7-2 win over Georgia Southwestern.
The Falcons (5-2 overall, 1-2 in Peach Belt Conference) won five singles' matches and two matches in doubles' action to secure the victory.
Freshman Alina Munteanu defeated Sydnee Smith of Georgia Southwestern 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles' match. Freshman Emily Beatty topped the Hurricanes' Anneliese Leahy 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles' match.
Freshman Rayne Sinclair defeated Kendall Crew of Georgia Southwestern 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles' match. Freshman Julia Berg fell to the Hurricanes' Celia Castillo 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 in the No. 4 singles' match.
Senior Allison Howell defeated Lauren Resnick of Georgia Southwestern 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles' match. Freshman Alice Copland topped the Hurricanes' Jamie Thomas 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles' match.
Munteanu and Sinclair defeated Smith and Leahy 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles' match. Howell and Copland topped Crew and Castillo 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles' match.
Freshmen Allison Whitley and Melanie Whitely fell to Resnick and Thomas 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles' match.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, March 2 with a trip to Albany, Georgia to take on Albany State University. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Eastern/12 p.m. Central.
